We're a small group located at the University of Wuppertal. Small enough that you'll probably know everyone's name by the end of your first week and big enough that there's always someone who knows why your code doesn't work (or at least claims to).
Our office door (room D.08.01) is decorated with a cat. We like to think of having a group mascot as symbol of scientific excellence, but it's probably just there because a suspiciously large fraction of the group likes cats
We collaborate closely with our colleagues at Forschungszentrum Jülich, home to some of the world's most advanced brain atlases and one of Europe's most powerful supercomputers.
Our close partnership is not only a valuable research network but also means that our scientific family is a lot bigger than our office suggests.
Speaking of the office:
most of us share it, so there's usually someone around.
Our group includes Bachelor's and Master's students, PhD students, postdocs, and one professor who somehow keeps us all organised. We don't really care what you bring to the party, but we do care about good ideas and curiosity.
…but it's not the only thing we do. We like group trips, or a good game night!
Joining a new research group can be intimidating. We try very hard to make sure it isn't. Questions are always welcome, nobody expects you to know everything, and you'll be part of the team in no time :-)
